The actor from Glee who plays Artie (the boy in the wheelchair) grew up in Plano and was a member of the (now defunct) local boy band NLT (“Not Like Them”).

I remember that band! They were starting to get big when I was in high school (operative word “starting” and not “big”), emerging from homegrown status and signing with record labels, etc. I find the band’s existence kind of funny, especially now that I know that one of its members actually made it, so to speak. In my sophomore year of high school, during the band’s nascency, NLT did a performance or other (maybe it was Battle of the Bands?) on our campus. I will never forget Mr. Stanton’s sarcastic response to their name: “A boy band called Not Like Them? Who are they supposed to be not like, themselves?”
